Keeping fit is not just about being able to walk or run great distances or lift heavy weights in the gym.

As we grow older we need to consider how best to keep our bodies in good shape to enable us to carry out our day to day activities.

For example

  • You may walk a lot but how do you maintain your upper body strength?

  • You may play golf, bowls or badminton,  but feel a few more aches and pains than usual, some simple warm ups and stretches will help

  • You may do no formal exercise or activity but want to continue to reach items off the top shelves or reach to do up your clothing behind you – we need to maintain our flexibility to do this.

  • Do you have enough strength and balance to cope with tricky environments – uneven pavements for example?

Check your current level of functional fitness using industry recognised testing for strength, flexibility aerobic and balance fitness. These simple tests can be carried out in your own home. Find out what steps you can take to keep your body able to function for you.
